Even living halfway across the world he had such a close relationship with Alison and me. He helped raise us as toddlers and took us in for summers at a time in Nanjing. He was unable to attend my wedding in the US but wrote a beautiful speech for our ceremony. Given not only his academic accomplishments but also the respect he has in his community I’m very proud to be his granddaughter.  - Lucy Xie
